CAREER-WISE: WOMEN HAVE LOWER EXPECTATIONS THAN MEN

Women have lower career expectations than men, anticipating smaller pay cheques and longer wait for promotions.
Prof . Sean Lyons from University of Guelph, Canada, discovered that women expect starting salaries to be 14 per cent less than that of men.
This gap in wage expectations widens over their careers with women anticipating their earnings to be 18 per cent less than men after five years on the job, reports the journal Industrial Relations.
As for their first promotion, the study found women expect to wait close to two months longer than men for their first step up the corporate ladder, according to a Guelph statement.
"It's a bit of chicken-and-egg-situation," said the business professor, who worked on the study with Carleton University professor Linda Schweitzer and Dalhousie University professor Ed Ng.
"Women know that they currently aren't earning as much as men so they enter the workforce with that expectation. Because they don't expect to earn as much, they likely aren't as aggressive when it comes to negotiating salaries or pay raises and will accept lower paying jobs than men, which perpetuates the existing inequalities", said Prof Lyons.
The study involved surveying more than 23,000 university students about salary and promotion expectations as well as career priorities. The reality is there is a gap in salary with university-educated women earning only 68 per cent of the salaries of equally qualified men, according to a 2008 Canadian Labor Force Survey.

Binds Beliefs

The human mind is a powerful thing. It can generate its own idea naturally. Human beings can think of anything, anytime. Their thoughts and beliefs by birth become a part of their life. With simply a belief in their mind, they can generate a whole idea about everything in their life.
Superstition is also a part of every human life. This type of thinking is their own creation. The old thoughts and beliefs that they have been developing since their birth are put in practice.
Superstition makes a man weak mentally. He always thinks negatively. He develops a fear in himself. He is afraid of taking steps in life. He is compelled to think that his future is going to be horrible because of the superstition he has developed in himself.
Many people think that their day is not going to be bright unless they have had a look at their horoscopes. It is surprising that most of the daily horoscopes are right. This is another superstition. People never take it as luck. Luckily the superstition goes well many times in our life.
Apart from horoscopes and astrology, people still believe that bathing in holy rivers makes one pure. If one sees a cat crossing one's way, one takes it to be as unlucky, while it is believed one should not cut one's nails in the nighttime.

Three Notes of Positivity

It doesn't matter if you went to bed in a negative mood yesterday, because today gives you another chance to benefit from positive thinking.
The first minutes of your day are the most important ones, because your mind is just awake and receptive to anything that comes along without the filters of clear thinking. So, it is very important that you feed yourself with positive thoughts to start a new day look by using affirmations.
A key for a great start of a new day of positive thinking is to feel gratitude. Don't jump out of bed straight away when you wake up. Choose something taht you are thankful for and think about it, while still lying quietly in bed.
Actually, don't leave your bed until you've experienced the feeling of being grateful. You could feel grateful for a beautiful day, or for your partner lying next to you, or for the breakfast you will enjoy.
Do not to rush over it-the secret is to actually take the time to feel grateful for something in your life. You will realize that you're in a good mood and ready to start the day almost without effort when you have taken the time to feel gratitude.

Stop Anger

Anger is something that each one of us has experienced. Some of us only occasionally, some almost daily. Can we eliminate all anger?  Probably not.
We will always have expectations, and those expectations will often be unmet. Disappointment is the principle cause of anger. When we are disappointed, we look for someone to blame. Declaring someone to be at fault is the nature of anger. Anger is always directed at someone.
Someone has just done something really awful and you are angry at them. What now?
Here are seven secrets to stop anger before it stops you:
1. It may not immediately occur to you that you are angry. You know that you have been wronged, and you can see everyone around you rake a step back, but especially if you are really angry, it may take a while to gain the clarity to acknowledge your anger. Anger clouds perception and thinking, so make a special effort to spot it early and put it into words, "I am angry".
2. Concentrate on taking slow deep breaths. Sometimes this is all it takes to break out of anger and gain clarity on the issue. At other times breathing deeply is just a beginning, but it paves the way for the rest of the secrets.
3. Get clears what you are angry about and who you are angry at. Talk to yourself, "I am angry at him/her because s/he..........." Don't let your anger expand onto innocent bystanders, especially those trying to help calm you down. Don't refocus your anger onto everything that someone has ever done or failed to do.
4. Anger is an expression of frustration and helplessness. Remember that you always have optins-you can design your own life.
5. There is a silver lining to every disappointment. Your boss fired you and you are furious. Probably it was a blessing. Now you have the opportunity to get a better job that you really enjoy.
6. Angry and happy don't mix. Flush out the angry, and the happy has a place to put down roots. Forgive everyone for everything in order to give anger and resentment a chance to fade. Forgive and you can become happy.

Approaches to success

How important is success to a leader?  Must be very important, no? But then how does one achieve it? Going through various literature, I found three different approaches.
First is the simple principle of hard work. We are taught from childhood that if you work hard today, you will enjoy success someday. Though hard work is important for success, if your heart is not in the work, it becomes donkey work. The success attained limited to that in the career rather than in the leadership. In our student life, we are asked to work hard with the enticement of the prestigious and the lucrative job when we graduate. This hard work principle often robs people from the joy of working. It is even considered that happiness is disparate from success. So, following this principle, people get success in their career but they find their jobs boring and meaningless. In such a case, how will they serve people wholeheartedly?
The second principle says what you think is more important than what you do. It emphasizes on a setting a success mindset. Surely, being imaginative, having a positive attitude and setting a big goals are desirable qualities for the leaders. But mind power promises too high and instantaneous success. It would be a great boon if positive thinking alone was enough to do everything. In this book Breakthrough experiences, Dr John F Demartini says "The most longer I stayed positive, the more something would blow and I would get really negative, either to myself or someone else." A leader needs to complement positive thinking with realistic thinking. Another drawback of the overnight success literature is that for them success means becoming a multimillionaire. There is no place for integrity and compassion.

Bieber's Perfume for her

Justin Bieber has revealed he chose to create a perfume for his female fans because the way a girl smells is very important to him.
The baby singer is preparing to release the "fruity gourmand" scent Somedsay-which hopes will bring his fans "close" to raise money for charity.
He said,"Let's be real, the way a girl smells is very important to a guy! I have such a deep connection with my fans, so creating a fragrance that i personally love is another way I can bring them closer to my world."
Bieber added to WWD, " Not only am I able to create a fragrance for all my fans but I am able to give back to charity, which is a huge priority for me. The people at Give Back Brands really get me, and what I represent and care about."
